What is PPC and How Does it Help a Marketing Strategy?

Internet marketing is made up of a variety of different departments who work together to create a solid marketing campaign for your business. Part of this process is dedicated to generating interest in your website through various different methods and techniques so that you begin to get recognised as a reputable source and therefore fare better on the world wide web as a company.

One of the ways in which this can be achieved is through Pay Per Click marketing – or PPC as it is more commonly known. Unless you are heavily involved with the online marketing industry, you may never have heard of this term being used before, so what does it mean? How does it help an online marketing strategy?

What Does PPC Entail?

Firstly, let’s tackle what PPC actually means. Pay Per Click marketing allows businesses to advertise on a website or a search engine for a fee each time their advert is clicked by another user on that website. It might seem strange that you are essentially paying the search engine or web host for the click, but it will have been their influence which will have sent the visitor to your website.

Search engine PPC is one of the most common forms of pay per click advertising, mainly due to the popularity of surfing the web using search terms in these engines.

How Does It Help?

Advertising in this manner on a search engine often requires a business to bid on a keyword which they would like to be represented by. If they are successful, they will appear in the sponsored links section which is usually at the top of the search engine.

This prime position at the top of the search engine results will often generate the most clicks, meaning that the closer to the top you are, the more likely your site will be accessed by potential customers or clients.

However, for each click that you receive while you are in this position as a sponsored link, you will be required to pay the search engine a fee in order to continue to appear as one of their sponsored links.

It may be difficult to see how spending money on a prime spot on a search engine will benefit you in the long run, but the intention is that the higher up on the screen and more visible you are, the more likely it is that your website will generate a sale which will bring in a greater amount of money than you are spending on the ad space.
